Professor Lynne Perri, a journalist in residence at American University, wrote features and reviews (books, movies, theater) in the early part of her career at the Clearwater Sun, Tallahassee Democrat and The Tampa Tribune. She also was assistant features editor at the Democrat and the Tribune, overseeing daily lifestyle sections as well as Home, Food, Fashion, TV and entertainment coverage.
She later moved to USA TODAY to join the graphics and photography staff, where she was deputy managing editor from 1987-1996 and again from 1999-2006, leaving for three years to teach at Northwestern University. She continued to write occasional features and book reviews for the News and Life sections while at USA TODAY.
She has been an adjunct professor at Syracuse, Northwestern, the University of Maryland and the University of South Florida.
She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and a master’s from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
